Characteristic values determined from wood samples with a moisture content of 12%.
Two kinds of oak occur locally. These are the Sessile Oak (Quercus petrea) and the Common Oak (Quercus robur). They hardly differ with regard to outer appearance and wood characteristics. Other types of oak, even though of little significance, are the Turkey Oak (Quercus cerris) and the Red Oak (Quercus rubra).

Oaks are trees with great character: they are symbols of strength and sturdiness. In terms of durability, resilience and solidity, Oak wood surpasses all other European kinds of wood.

Oak wood is considered one of the most valuable indigenous, utilisable timbers and has enjoyed popular use as an outside building material since the Middle Ages.

Currently, oak is also used in modern wooden façades and in gardens as outside planks for wooden terraces and walkways.
Due to its high workability and warm, elegant colour, it is very popular for use as furniture or interior fittings.
Traditionally used as staves for barrels, oak wood gives certain first-class red wines their particularly beloved woody note.
